WE IMAGINE IN MOTION
Meet Akira

Origin Story
Akira Monma is a husband, father, and visual storyteller who captures movement, energy, and identity through photography and film.
With 19 years as a software engineer and 17 years as a breakdancer, dancer, and gymnastics coach, he brings a rare combination of technical precision and embodied movement into his work. Breakdancing was a defining part of his life, shaping his deep connection to rhythm, expression, and the joy of movement. He spent years mentoring others in discovering their confidence and style, and that same understanding now shapes how he works behind the camera.
His journey into photography began with fatherhood, capturing moments he wanted to hold onto forever. What followed was a natural evolution, blending his engineering mindset with his love for dance to create imagery that feels alive, not still.
Today, he tells the stories of athletes, dancers, founders, and individuals with a deep understanding of what it means to be seen in motion.
Alongside his wife, KyAlea Monma, founder of HOKU Design Group, he is part of a shared mission to bring powerful stories forward so they can reach the people they’re meant to impact.
